Core Values: Academics and Personal Attributes at Work in Room 3
Welcome to 4th Grade!!
I'm so excited to have you in my classroom this year! We will learn 4th grade curriculum and also focus on the core values that are a recipe for a good friend.
School supplies needed on a daily basis: A standard 1 1/2 inch three ring binder, 24ct. colored pencils, black expo markers, two glue sticks, small scissors, tissue box and paper towels, pencils, and ear buds.
Some dates to remember:
New policy this year: Parents interested in field trips/working in class, will need to be fingerprinted and have TB clearance and paperwork. You can go to the office and get paper work to start this process.
Recycled water bottle fundraiser: Bring empty bottles in on Wednesdays. Thank you to all the families who help with recycling!
One Yard: Fridays at 11:15am
Oct. 20 - college day wear something that represents your favorite college.
Maybe its just the colors!
Oct. 19- earthquake practice: duck and cover
On this website you will find our daily homework as well as other important notes and news. Students should NOT depend on school notes for daily homework. They will need to use their planners for recorded information. Life skills at work.
Websites that support curriculum
The following websites will support classroom curriculum:
Scholastic News: password QXESY9
Grammar support: softschools.com
CCSS Math support: Kahn Academy/learnzillion.com/MathAntics
Typing: typingclub.com (proper finger placement is required for program) is located in google classroom
Daily Reading Log:
Please help your child by correcting errors on their daily reading log before turning it in on Friday. Please correct indention, transitional words, and adjectives.
Purpose: The reason for daily reading for 20 minutes and writing is to develop comprehension and consistent practice of components when writing a paragraph. The focus is on indent, transitions, and adjectives. Please check for underlined titles.
Students need to increase their keyboarding skills for CCSS. Please go to typing.com (suggested programs that include finger placing will help the most). Students have their password in their binders.
Information about cyber bullying, digital footprints, and appropriate conduct will be discussed in class and I hope at home as well. This is an important concept to teach at a young age to set protocol.
Core values at work:
We always practice our core values of respect, responsibility, caring, trust, and perseverance through our yellow ticket system. Students who receive a yellow ticket through the week, try their luck at "Corn Hole" on Fridays. In addition, PBIS is the chosen positive behavior plan for our school. Students will receive PAW prints for expected behavior in class and on campus. PAWS will be entered into a drawing for special rewards.
October 16-20 signed tests are in your child's folder today. Please sign and return Tuesday. Aeries gradebook is open. Go to mhusd.org, then choose the middle icon "grading", then create a password. These are not final grades.
Weeks focus: Go to google classroom for quizlet spelling words and practice each day. We talk about these words daily. We will see fractions later on, but we need to know these marks. At home, talk with your child about 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, and 3/4 . These are the benchmarks for fourth grade learners. We still need estimation water bottles filled with little parts such as cereal, M&M's etc. We have been focusing on geography research and using an atlas. A novel study on Island of the Blue Dolphin has ELA and writing standards addressed in the story. We will create a slide show of the animal characters within the story. We will research the animal (noting the source) then create 5 slides to share with our teams. Practice multiplication facts daily. Ask your child to give answers to 5 math facts a day. Start with 2's.
Thank you for all your household supplies!
Core value for August and September is responsibility. We will focus on the core value of respect towards property and one another at our teams.
