Core Values: Academics and Personal Attributes at Work in Room 3
Welcome to 4th Grade!!
We focus on the core values of respect, responsibility, caring, teamwork, trust and perseverance
which are a recipe for a good people, good friends and success!
2018-19 School year supplies:
A couple of days before school starts there will be a school supply list posted at Nordstrom office. The list was created by our teacher team. Here, you will find a list of supplies just for our class.
School supplies needed on a daily basis: A standard 1 1/2 inch three ring binder, 24ct. colored pencils, black expo markers, two glue sticks, small scissors, paper towels, pencils, and ear buds. In the first week of school, students will add to their binder, one homework folder and a planner which will be given to them.
Some dates to remember:
Policy: Parents interested in field trips/working in class, will need to be fingerprinted and have TB clearance and paperwork. You can go to the office and get paper work to start this process.
On this website you will find our daily homework as well as other important notes and news. Students should NOT depend on school notes for daily homework. They will need to use their planners for recorded information. Life skills at work.
Wear your Nordstrom shirt every Friday. Fourth grade is color blue so you can wear that too!
Spring break April 8
Picture day is 3/2
SBAC testing after spring break
Websites that support curriculum
Aeries gradebook: Go to mhusd.org, then choose the middle icon "grading", then create a password. These are not final grades. Ensure that the office has your correct email in the system.
The following websites will support classroom curriculum:
Scholastic News: Scholasticnews.sn/4 (class code if needed: S5qbtr)
Grammar support: softschools.com
CCSS Math support: Kahn Academy/learnzillion.com/MathAntics
Typing: typing.com (proper finger placement is required for program) is located in google classroom.
Here are the sites we go onto every day.
1. Students enter their email account. firstname.lastname@example.org
2. Students click the "waffle" or grid in the upper far right corner of their screen. (It will be a drop down)
3. Students choose google classroom. (class pass code if needed: S5qbtr)
4. Students see all their working assignments and spelling words in Quizlet.
Daily Reading Log:
Please help your child by correcting errors on their daily reading log before turning it in on Friday. Please correct indention, transitional words, and adjectives.
Purpose: The reason for daily reading for 20 minutes and typing is to develop comprehension and consistent practice of components when writing a paragraph. The focus is on indent, transitions, and adjectives. Please check for underlined titles.
Students need to increase their keyboarding skills for CCSS. Please go to typing.com (suggested programs that include finger placing will help the most). Students have their password in their binders.
Information about cyber bullying, digital footprints, and appropriate conduct will be discussed in class and I hope at home as well. This is an important concept to teach at a young age to set protocol.
Core values at work:
We always practice our core values of respect, responsibility, caring, trust, teamwork, and perseverance through our yellow ticket system. Students who receive a yellow ticket through the week try their luck at "Corn Hole" on Fridays. In addition, PBIS is the chosen positive behavior plan for our school. Students will receive PAW prints for expected behavior in class and on campus. PAWS will be entered into a drawing for special rewards.
Friendly reminder: Only bring in plastic bottles in a separate bag from cans on Wednesdays.
March 25-29 Picture day will be on 3/27 rescheduled date
Thank you parents for bringing in the plastic recycle bottles every Wednesday! Thank you Alvarez family for taking the bottles to the recycle center on Wednesday. We can take water bottles with lids off. Bring bottles/clean cans on Wednesdays only. Please separate bottles from cans!
We will focus on Scholastic News this week by reading an article each day until the test on Friday. Ensure that your child is reviewing one article each day. You will see highlights on the articles because these are the evidence and facts about the subject or title.
We will have our simulation race on Wednesday, 3/20 at 10:50am. We are working on fractions and decimals for the next two weeks. We will test on 3/29 for Quizlet spelling and meaning. Please practice words each day for 5 minutes. Support in class will be daily. Take the opportunity to review all Quizlets in google classroom. If possible have your child stay after school until 2:45pm for fraction review on Tuesdays. We had a great session of fractions last Tuesday after school and this week we will incorporate decimal and fractions together. A little bit of extra help could go a long way. You will need to write me an email explaining how your child will get home at 2:45pm. Students who attend after school homework club in Room 4 will be with me during their homework time until 2:45pm.
Our focus on accountable AR daily reading will be typed each day. By Thursday night, print the typed reading log. Students will turn it in on Friday morning. Focus on 5 minutes of Quizlet test on 3/29
BUILDING: LEGO structures in centers and identifying angles will be the review. this is an ongoing center activity. Please be at school to earn classroom STARS. We earn a STAR when everyone is at school during the week. Five STARS earn us an atten-dance party! We earned our dance party last week!
Read at least two books by April 5th. Please make sure to computer print reading log on Thursday and bring it to class on Friday morning. Math focus is geometry shapes, angles, protractors, area for review and fraction work too. Work with your child on fractions by baking using measurement. Area of focus in science is NGSS plant cycles for our new adoption book. We would love auction item donation such as stuffed animals! Next auction is April 5th. which includes banking. Many students are buying their desks!
All posted videos will remain on the homework list because a constant review of concepts is essential for building on other information already learned in class. These videos will reinforce student's knowledge and provide a reminder.
