Core Values: Academics and Personal Attributes at Work in Room 3
Welcome to 4th Grade!!
I'm so excited to have you in my classroom this year! We will learn 4th grade curriculum and also focus on the core values that are a recipe for a good friend.
School supplies needed on a daily basis: A standard 1 1/2 inch three ring binder, 24ct. colored pencils, black expo markers, two glue sticks, small scissors, tissue box and paper towels, pencils, and ear buds.
Some dates to remember:
New policy this year: Parents interested in field trips/working in class, will need to be fingerprinted and have TB clearance and paperwork. You can go to the office and get paper work to start this process.
Recycled water bottle fundraiser: Bring empty bottles in on Wednesdays. Thank you to all the families who help with recycling! Please only bring water bottles or jugs that contain water! Our recycling is paying for ink and flex seating! We also bought auction items.
On this website you will find our daily homework as well as other important notes and news. Students should NOT depend on school notes for daily homework. They will need to use their planners for recorded information. Life skills at work.
Reading contracts are due May 22
Music concert with Moyer at 7:30pm on May 22
Open House May 17 Have fun in Maker's Space at Room 4 too!
Students are having fun with science!!
I'm hearing from most of my students that their experiment is fun to observe each day. We will primarily put the display board together in class, but the actual experiment and graph will be recorded at home. Your child's experiment and graph is due on May 11. We will assemble our display boards in class starting on May 11. All projects will be complete by May 16. Send in pictures of your experiment so that we can add them to the display board!!
Websites that support curriculum
Aeries gradebook: Go to mhusd.org, then choose the middle icon "grading", then create a password. These are not final grades. Your child has evaluated his/her grades and know how to access the system.
The following websites will support classroom curriculum:
Scholastic News: password QXESY9
Grammar support: softschools.com
CCSS Math support: Kahn Academy/learnzillion.com/MathAntics
Typing: typingclub.com (proper finger placement is required for program) is located in google classroom
Daily Reading Log:
Please help your child by correcting errors on their daily reading log before turning it in on Friday. Please correct indention, transitional words, and adjectives.
Purpose: The reason for daily reading for 20 minutes and writing is to develop comprehension and consistent practice of components when writing a paragraph. The focus is on indent, transitions, and adjectives. Please check for underlined titles.
Students need to increase their keyboarding skills for CCSS. Please go to typing.com (suggested programs that include finger placing will help the most). Students have their password in their binders.
Information about cyber bullying, digital footprints, and appropriate conduct will be discussed in class and I hope at home as well. This is an important concept to teach at a young age to set protocol.
Core values at work:
We always practice our core values of respect, responsibility, caring, trust, and perseverance through our yellow ticket system. Students who receive a yellow ticket through the week, try their luck at "Corn Hole" on Fridays. In addition, PBIS is the chosen positive behavior plan for our school. Students will receive PAW prints for expected behavior in class and on campus. PAWS will be entered into a drawing for special rewards.
Word of the week: entrepreneur
Type your reading log this week. Go to google classroom and type each day. It will be under daily reading log. Make sure to write book title, date, and a paragraph about what you read. Six sentences are required.
Run for 20 bucks on Tuesday
Flocabulary: students have an account and can practice their academic words that will be apparent and used throughout 4th grade literature. The assignment is in Flocabulary. We will examine characters, plot, and the relationship between the language arts and history units. Most of the reading will take place in class. If you want to take the book home each night, then bring it back each day. By the Great Horned Spoon is our new novel this month.
Math focus will be review of 4th grade.
4th grade standards will be taught throughout the unit.
We will continue to pull evidence from non-fiction materials and work on answering prompts in writing.
Flexible seating: we bought red swivel chairs from Harbor Freight Tools! This is one of our most popular items in class!
